my cat started biting me, what should i do?
i've had him about a year (he's 2 and a half) and i've had many cats throughout my life. he is usually kind and gentle but he's developed an attitude - biting with his very sharp teeth and/or scratching (i won't declaw him because i don't believe in that)...he does it when i try to gently clip his nails or even now sometimes when i pick him up. i understand animals have/need free will and believe me he gets fun and freedom 24/7...i suppose i could use a water bottle, but i don't know if that will confuse him. i use a water bottle at him if he jumps on a certain couch we have. i don't know if disciplining him in the same way for two different things will work. i love him, i just desperately want the biting to stop and for him to be sweet again. if anyone has annnny suggestions, please let me know. thanks.
You don't have to worry! This is perfectly common in all cats. Cats are individual creatures that don't enjoy certain things.
Your cat, like many others, don't enjoy to be carried. Cats have sensitive stomachs and individual personalities and dislike to be touched in the wrong places and being lifted from the ground.
Think of it this way, imagine some one three times your size grabbing you off the floor, wrapping it's giant fingers aroundy our stomach.
That wouldn't feel too good.
When I lift up my cat, she growls and bites me too. It's perfectly normal for cats to bite, growl, hiss, /ect./ when being lifted or forced to do something they don't want to do!
Another reason why your cat bites you is because when you clip his nails, your clipping one of his few self defenses.
Being small [and adorable] creatures, cats have very few defenses against enemies. One of their most important weapons a cat has is his/her nails!
They need their nails to climb, cling, scratch, grab, /ect./. So when you clip your cat's nails, he's bound to put up a fight! The majority of cats do!
Your cat doesn't mean anything offensive by it, he's just like other cats and want to have things their own way 
If your cat is biting you for other reasons, he's probably either playing or trying to teethe.
But if this continues in a more harsher and dangorous way (such as bleeding in his mouth, sourness, very akward behavior) take him to the vet for a check up.
But it's most likely that your cat is either playing, defending himself, or stubborn like the majority of cats are!
