Should I buy a single-speed bicycle?
This would be for recreational use.. Not going fast... Opinions?? Suggested models? Thanks!
I own 3 bikes, one bmx, one mountain, and one single speed. Of these 3, i ride the single speed most. I did not purchase it as a single speed, however. I took my old schwin and screwed off both derailers, as they were causing me problems. After purchasing a proper single speed cassete for the front and making my chain shorter, I essentially had a Single Speed Bike. I was surprised how much easier it was to ride, since there was a lot less friction in the chains now. My word of advice-- dont buy a single speed, just convert an old mountain bike into one. If you mainly ride on flat roads and small hills, then it'll be sufficient.
