Freestyle Jump Park
burton? missions or lo-backs?

ok, im looking between the burton cartel lo-backs and the burton missions. i like the missions, but i like the cartel lo-backs too. which ones are better for an intermediate freestyle/park rider? i can jump and do tricks and can do rails with ease and can turn and eveything well.
i would buy the lo-backs but im not sure how high the highback goes up too, or if its the same size as the missions. which ones are better

also does anyone know where i could find the lo-backs in a shop around the detroit/ann arbor area?(michigan)
about the burton cartels (not lo back)
ive also heard the cartels high back makes it difficult/akward to do tricks. is this true, because thsi is the only reason that is keeping me from buying them.

Missions are a little more flexy than the Cartels, so it's a little more geared toward the park, but that doesn't mean it can't kill it anywhere else. I ride a love my Missions, and I know people who ride regular Cartels in the park without a problem.

The lo-back just makes moving around a bit easier, but other than that, it's not much of a difference. I look at it this way. The Missions are a favorite binding for park rats who don't want to drop too much mulah on a pair of binders, but still want a pair worth every dollar and then some. Now, the Missions already have hi-backs on them. The Cartel lo-backs? Really kind of pointless if there is a loved park binder already that uses high backs. The Cartels are also a little stiffer. Catch my drift?

All in all, I would just go with the regular Cartels over the lo-back Cartels if you have the dough. If you don't, Missions are great too. And if you decide to go with the Missions, but find that they are a little too flexy or don't allow enough movement, you can rotate the hi-backs, or adjust the ankle strap. Move the screws towards the bottom for more lateral freedom, move them up for more support.

As for where to buy them, I'm not sure of anywhere in MI or how much (if any) tax they charge, so I'm gonna say buy online.

I bought my Missions from trusnow.com. They're based in Oregon I believe. The have free standard shipping in the US for anything over $50, or 3 day shipping for $3. Free return shipping, and no sales tax. And they have a 30 day warranty. All of this is listed on their website.

http://www.trusnow.com/

By the way, the Cartel Lo-Backs are a Coalition binder, so you'll have to find a Coalition store to get them. You could try e-bay too.

Volkl Men's Ledge Freestyle Twin Tip Skis '12 - Flat
USD 279.93

The Volkl Men's Ledge Freestyle Twin Tip Skis are for the intermediate to advanced rider who wants a ski that is great in the park, small jumps and performs well all over the mountain. The Ledge features a completely symmetrical shape and flex that rides equally well switch or forward, as well as a super soft jib zone in the forebody. The durable Multi Layer Sensorwood core has a solid feel on boxes and rails with a softer tip and tail for butters and spins. The Tough Box construction is there to keep your ski from cracking under the rigors of park riding and full sidewalls for carving. With a slight rocker in the tip and tail, combined with a classic camber profile under the foot, V lkl engineers have created the ideal blend for firm snow. Easy, smooth turn entry and exit, with acceleration and rebound as well. While not as maneuverable in soft snow as the full rocker designs, this rocker design is best utilized on hard snow or in the park and pipe. The Volkl Ledge is a confidence booster for those looking to take on new features effortlessly.

Volkl Ledge Freestyle Skis
USD 399.99

The Ledge is every bit a freestyle ski suited to intermediate park skiers or anyone who wants a super buttery jib and small jump ski. Built like a tank the Ledge starts with a Multi Layer Sensorwood core which uses heavy durable wood underfoot for a solid feel when locking onto boxes and rails with a softer wood in the tip and tail for pressing out butters and spinning off lips. Around the core the Ledge gets the Tough Box treatment, a composite sheath around the core, to keep your ski from cracking under the rigors of park riding and full sidewalls to make sure you can carve in between each feature. Like any true park ski the Ledge is perfectly symmetrical in flex and shape so everything feels the same switch as it does regular and rides best when center mounted. To make for even deeper butters, easier spins, and catch free landing the Ledge gets tip and tail rocker making it feel short and nimble but long when it matters under carving or landing. With a smooth and predictable pop the Ledge will give you the confidence to step to the features that once scared you and the control to make it look effortless

Volkl Alley Freestyle Skis
USD 209.97

The Alley is unique as an entry level freestyle ski because not only does it slay in the terrain park but it also skis very well outside the park. This also makes the Alley a fantastic ski for juniors that have outgrown junior equipment in either size or abilities. With an 81mm waist the Alley is a very agile ski that is easy to flick from edge to edge for solid carves and very stable for hitting and landing jumps. The reason for this is the Multi Layer Sensorwood core, which utilizes stiffer wood under foot for balance and stability and lighter wood in the tip and tail for resilience and snap. As for the edge hold, the Alley uses a Powershell cap which delivers your energy straight to the edge for the best grip while still being forgiving and it adds durability for the abuse that freestyle skiing puts on the ski. For additional durability and snap the Alley also uses the Tough Box sheath, a composite weave that surrounds the core, for impact resistance on rails and boxes and extra pop off jumps and for easier ollies. Equally at home in the terrain park as it is anywhere else on the mountain the Alley is a fantastic ski for any beginner to intermediate skier who wants to learn to ski park but also likes to explore the mountain.
