Disc Brake Pads
Why is it that my brake pads do not last long and my brake Disc has been afftected.?

I use a 2004 honda accord sedan. Each time i change the brake pads they do not last long enough. The Brake Disc is worn out now and there is noise coming from the wheels

its one of two reasons: driving style in my case or just bad brakes/ rotors. replace rotors with new ones from dealership/ oem ones from auto store and get good brake pads like wagner, not the $15 dollar ones. drive normally and see where that gets you.

Avid X0 Disc Brake
USD 261.00

The Avid X0 Silver Disc Brake exploits the mirror-like finish of polished aluminum to harken back to the origin of the X0 components. While they remind us of bygone days, they're as modern as ever. The X0 brakes make use of forged aluminum for the lever body and caliper where the XX brakes use forged magnesium, and they use Avid's G3 Cleansweep rotor where XX brakes use a two piece Cleansweep X rotor. This is really what sets the two brake systems apart and the difference is measured with a few extra grams and some money left in your pocket. Since they're part of the Elixir family, these brakes use Avid's Taperbore technology that incorporates the fluid reservoir into the piston assembly. This simplifies the system a bit and saves weight over designs that use separate reservoirs. The carbon fiber levers pivot close to the bars, closer than other makes. The reason for this is that it provides a lever swing that more closely matches the movement of your fingers as they close in towards the handlebars. This is part of what gives Avid Elixirs a natural feel. Combine this lever movement with a tool-free reach adjust and a pad contact adjustment, and they can be dialed in to fit anyone's hands and preferences. The last great thing about the levers is that they're Matchmaker X compatible. This is part of the upgrade from X9 brakes -- only XX and X0 have it. Matchmaker X allows you to bolt your shifters, brake levers, and even X-Loc remote buttons onto one clamp to simplify your control arrangement on the bars. It's a lighter system to boot. The forged 2-piece aluminum calipers are stiff and have two huge pistons to provide big stopping power when you need it. The top loading design allows you to remove the organic brake pads without removing the wheel. And a banjo fitting on the caliper end of the brake hose swivels just enough to make hose routing clean and easy. Another detail, often overlooked, is that Avid uses DOT 5.1 fluid in their Elixir brakes.

Formula R1 Disc Brake Black, 100cm-Front
USD 316.95

Tipping the scales at approximately 289.7g for an entire post mount assembly with a 160mm rotor, the powerful Formula R1 Disc Brake is just as at home on a purebred crosscountry race rig as it is on an all-day enduro ripper. It shares the same flex-resisting and heat dissipating technology as the superlight weight R1 Racing, but the R1 divvies up the classic price/weight/strength ratios to favor cost and reliability over grams.A forged master cylinder ensures strength at a low weight, while a radial design resists flex so all lever forces are transferred directly to the hard anodized piston. A new, higher capacity master cylinder houses time-proven DOT 4 fluid to keep things operating cool and smooth for long maintenance intervals. You can easily run the levers moto-style without swapping lines thanks to FormulaAAAs Flip-Flip design. ItAAAs also compatible with the MixMaster clamp to reduce cockpit clutter by merging shifter and lever clamps into one unit. The R1 is equipped with FormulaAAAs Tool Free Reach Adjustment knob for quick and simple fine-tuning of lever position to get you set with perfect ergonomics and maximum leverage. The R1 can also be upgraded with the separately available FCS (Feeling Control System) that allows lever stroke adjustment and compensation for pad wear. The R1 uses a polyester braided hose with aluminum crimps and banjo fittings to prevent hose expansion when under extreme compression. The one-piece, forged caliper houses a large 22mm diameter piston that pushes an aluminum backed organic brake pad. This combination provides excellent power, modulation, and quiet operation. The Formula R1 Disc Brake represents the pinnacle of disc brake performance. The price reflects all the parts, save the rotor, for a single wheel. Rotors are sold separately with the appropriate adaptorAAAchoose between one piece 160mm or 180mm, or the slightly lighter and much sexier two-piece design in 160mm or 180mm.

Formula RX Disc Brake
USD 179.95

Blessed with trickledown technology, the Formula RX Disc Brake shares the general design and performance of the top shelf R1AAAbut in an extremely affordable package. You can expect to get that same smooth application of stopping power and consistent lever feel that you expect from Formula's high-end products, with only a tiny weight penalty. The Formula RX Brake employs the new radial design master cylinder. The RX master cylinder body works just like its more expensive big brother, but a pressure cast body, as opposed to a forged body, keeps the cost down as does the use of steel hex-bolt hardware instead of the R1's alloy torx bolts. It can be run moto-style with the rear brake on the left as both lever/master cylinder bodies are identical. It features the same 22mm diameter pistons as the R1 and both can use the same brake pads. However, where the R1 has an alloy backed organic pad, the RX comes with a steel backed organic pad as standard equipment. It uses a polyester braided hose that works to prevent hose expansion when the system is under extreme pressure. Formula uses DOT 4 brake fluid, which is less temperature-sensitive than mineral oil.The pistons themselves are made of a heat dissipating composite material and are cupped to provide even more surface area for the fluid to push against and to help shed built-up heat. The one-piece caliper design is stiffer because there are no bolted-together parts to flex along the seam line when you need to stop fast and grab a finger-full of lever. Good ventilation on both the bottom and top of the piston dissipates heat and the top vent also helps make pad changes easy, even with the wheel still in the bike. The Formula RX Disc Brake is available in Black or White. The price reflects all the parts, save for the rotor which is sold separately in three sizesAAA160mm, 180mm, and 203mmAAAeach with the appropriate adapters. The RX brake weighs 341 grams (with 160mm rotor).

Avid XX Disc Brake
USD 404.00

The original XX Brakes set Avid's benchmark for lightness. They've undergone a few design improvements, and though they gained one whole gram, the performance benefits resulting from the sweeping changes make these XX Disc Brakes a whole new system and more worthy than ever to wear the brand's top-of-the-line badge. From the outside, the Elixir style lever looks all the same. However, it has all new Taperbore internals with a relocated bleed port and an air trap that automatically isolates any tiny bubbles, rendering them inert simply by trapping them away from the moving portion of fluid in the system. The lightweight lever body is forged magnesium with an 8 gram carbon fiber lever blade. There is a reach adjustment, but to save weight it requires a hex wrench. Also saving weight is the slim one-bolt U-clamp that secures the lever to the bars. The U-clamp can be swapped out for SRAM's Matchmaker X clamp, so you can attach shift levers and suspension remote to the same clamp.Where the two-piece caliper was made of magnesium before, it's made of forged aluminum now. This allows the use of organic and metallic brake pads. Beyond materials, the caliper shape has seen a complete re-design. Gone are the conical washers of old. Instead, Avid uses a direct bolt-on arrangement for the post-style caliper. This saves weight. And our longstanding favorite feature of Avid brake calipers remains -- the adjustable banjo fitting. The Avid XX Disc Brake is sold as a complete kit with their HSX rotor system. They produce less noise than older cleansweep designs. The price reflects calipers, rotors, hoses, and fluid for one wheel. There are two rotor sizes available -- 160 and 180mm. The HSX system features stainless steel rotors on aluminum carriers. This composite construction is ideal for heat dissipation, and they're super lightweight. You can do all of your brake maintenance with one wrench as all of the fasteners use Torx T-25 heads. XX Disc Brakes use DOT 5.1 brake fluid.

Formula RO Disc Brake
USD 366.95

The first disc brake to use oval pistonsAAAever. As in worldwide, in any application of disc brakes from F1 cars to Super BikesAAAthe mega powerful Formula RO Disc Brake pushes stopping power to new, uncharted levels in a lightweight package. While multi-piston calipers have been the go-to layout when power was the goal, they suffer from complex manufacturing, additional weight, and more moving parts (read: maintenance). The demands of top-tier downhill mountain bikes require as little mass as possible without hindering power or strength, and the oval pistons in the ROAAAs caliper provide just that. While an oval piston is the highlight of the RO, the pistons' heat-ditching technology also deserves attention. Made from an ultra-stiff composite, the piston is concave on the fluid side to increase heat-transferring surface area, while the pad side is grooved to promote a cooling air flow. Aside from the surface area maximizing oval piston, the ROAAAs caliper is a monobloc design, meaning thereAAAs no seam to flex when applying eyeball-elongating stopping pressure. The caliper has venting windows both top and bottom to keep things from sizzling on hot summer-time lift runsAAAthe top vent also allows easy pad change with the wheel still mounted.Up on the bars, Formula employs its high-capacity forged aluminum radial master cylinder. This design offers an excellent leverage ratio, minimal flex, and maximum fluid storage. It also allows you to run moto style without swapping lines or affecting bleed port access. FormulaAAAs Tool Free Reach Adjustment knob allows simple tuning of the forged aluminum lever blade for optimum ergonomics, while The Feeling Control System makes tweaking of lever stroke or compensation of pad wear a simple endeavor. In between the groundbreaking caliper and proven master cylinder resides a lightweight woven polyester hose that resists expansion from heat and line pressure for a nice, consistent lever feel.

Avid Elixir 9 Disc Brake
USD 226.00

As the fearless leader of the Elixir battalion, the Avid Elixir 9 Hydraulic Disc Brake has a lot to live up to. That means offering serious performance and high-end materials without forcing you to take out another mortgage on AAACasa Velo-Geek.AAA Since they're part of the Elixir family, these brakes use Avid's Taperbore technology, which incorporates the fluid reservoir into the piston assembly. This simplifies the system a bit and saves weight over designs that use separate reservoirs. Taperbore also features a new bladder material that reduces air permeability for a smoother feel and more braking power than previous iterations. The carbon fiber levers pivot close to the bars, closer than other makes. The reason for this is that it provides a lever swing that more closely matches the movement of your fingers as they close in towards the handlebars. This is part of what gives Elixirs a natural feel. Combined with the tool-free reach adjust and pad contact adjustment, they're easy to dial in to your particular hands and preferences. Elixir 9 levers are also Matchmaker compatible, which allows you to bolt your shifters, brake levers, and even a RockShox PushLoc remote onto one clamp for a simpler, lighter control arrangement on the bars. Maintaining a set of Elixir 9s is a snap, even if you're working on your bench at home. Avid Elixirs have top-loading pads, so you can replace the pads without working under the caliper or even removing the wheel. That means less bench-time and more trail-time. Elixir 9AAAs also feature Air Trap technology, which prevents air from entering the reservoir to simplify the bleed process. AvidAAAs Tri-Align Caliper Positioning System makes installation easier, too. The caliper aligns itself to the rotor. Just loosen the mounting bolts, squeeze the lever, then tighten the mounting bolts. ItAAAs that easy.
